Under Article 200 of the Constitution of India, the Uttarakhand Minority Commission Bill 2002 passed by the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly was approved on 16.06.2002.

Uttarakhand Minority Commission was constituted by Government Notification No. 1922/S.K./2003-35(Social Welfare)/2002 dated 29 September 2003 and first of all Sardar Mohar Singh was appointed as the Chairman. After formation, the Hon’ble Commission started its work on 29.09.2003.
